Environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution, urban stress, and resource scarcity are not just technical or policy problems; they are fundamentally behavioural and psychological. This course introduces learners to Environmental Psychology in a global context, examining how human behaviour is shaped by environments, social systems, and cultural norms. Drawing on real-world case studies from across the Global North and South, the course explores why people adopt or resist various sustainable behaviours, how environments influence well-being and identity, and how psychological insights can inform environmental policy and systems change. Topics such as environmental perception, place attachment, restoration and stress, climate anxiety, pro-environmental behaviour, and nudges are best designed for psychology students and working professionals. The course bridges theory and practice by applying psychological frameworks to urban design, public health, climate communication, and environmental governance. By the end of the course, learners will be able to analyse environmental behaviour and design context-sensitive, evidence-based sustainability interventions.
